In honor of @NASA's 50th anniversary, we want to highlight our very own STEAM advisor, Dr. Umaa Rebbapragada. Dr. Rebbapragada and other staff members from @NASAJPL have been leading Camp Rosie workshops on Perseverance and the Journey to Mars, The Search for Life 👽️, and Artificial Intelligence. You can check out the #linkinbio to learn more about Dr. Rebbapragada, and stay tuned for TechGYRLS announcements soon!

#ThrowbackThursday all the way to 1996! In the 90s our then-named Domestic Violence Project held an annual 5K Walk Against Domestic Violence in Glendale to empower survivors to find their voices and speak on their experience. We may no longer be walking but we're still here, over 25 years later, empowering survivors and their families. To learn more about our Domestic Violence Programs, visit the #linkinbio.
Camp Rosie stays busy! One of our favorite field trips is when we go visit Glendale City Hall. Before Camp Rosie came to YWCA it was a @myglendale program, and our contact this year, Christine B. Powers, used to work on it! She made it an amazing experience for the girls this year, bringing in department speakers from forensics, sustainability, and communications. But don't just take our word for it! ⬇️
🔶"It was an amazing experience. Natalie LOVED the City Hall trip. She has all sorts of new ideas about things she wants to engage in and felt really connected with peers on things that "matter." Honestly, the experience left her more curious, excited, and engaged in the world than I've seen in a long time!"
🔶"The biggest impact Camp Rosie had on my daughter was to have more courage to be social. Each day my daughter was excited to attend and share what she learned. One of the best conversations she had was discussing what she learned about Government and Glendale."
Camp Rosie goes neon! Special thanks to our friends over at @museumofneonart (👋 @benweberprojects @corriesiegel). Ben is MONA's Director of Education and he took our girls on a guided tour through the museum, making sure to highlight 💡 all the connections between art and science! They explored the permanent collection, as well as work from Roxy Rose and the exhibitions The Art of Plasma and Warren Neidich – The Brain Without Organs: An Aporia of Care. Want to check them out for yourself? Glow (sorry 😜) to our #linkinbio for more information!

At YWCA, we demand a world of equity and human decency. The landmark #SCOTUS decision in Obergefell v. Hodges was a historic day for equality and solidified what we already knew was true: #loveislove.
Supporting the LGBTQIA+ community will always be a part of our mission as we demand justice for all and a world where #lovewins. 🧡🌈
Since 2009, the international community has celebrated Nelson Mandela's birthday with #MandelaDay, and called on us all to honor him through service. The theme for #MandelaDay2022 is "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Tell us how you're serving your community in the comments 🧡👇️
Our signature annual event is back in-person this year! Mark your calendars for October 11th and join us for our 2022 Women for Racial Justice Breakfast featuring keynote speaker Angela Davis, who is sure to inspire and empower all of us.

This Sunday will mark two years since we lost Congressman John Lewis, a giant of the Civil Rights Movement. No matter how dark the circumstances, Lewis always had hope. As we work towards eliminating racism and empowering women, we remember the lessons he taught us, because "Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime." So in honor of the anniversary of his passing, we want to remind you that voting in *every* election is important, from your local school board to the Senate. Find out if you're registered to vote (or get registered to vote) at the 🔗 in bio. 🧡#goodtrouble
“This participant came to us with her 18-year-old daughter and her little son. She was married and had an abusive husband but they were able to flee to a shelter in another city. She looked for organizations to help her and guide her but she didn’t find any. She struggled for months until a case manager referred her to YWCA Glendale and Pasadena and our housing program. I started working with her and we looked for units, but due to her to having no credit and being self-employed it was difficult to secure an apartment. We applied for the Emergency Housing Voucher and worked one step at a time and she finally got approved! She received the voucher and we hunted for units, found an apartment, and waited for inspection to be approved. YWCA helped with furniture, a fridge, and other household items. The most wonderful thing was when the little boy asked me, 'Magda, can you get me a bed, because I never had one?' It broke my heart, so we made sure he got his bed and bedding and he was so happy! I’m proud to say we got one more family housed." -Magda Sellon, Housing Specialist
When
🔸Two-thirds of women killed by an intimate partner are killed with a gun, and
🔸An average of 70 women per month are shot and killed by an intimate partner, and
🔸Abusers with guns are 5x more likely to kill their victims, and
🔸 In more than half the mass shootings of the last decade, the perpetrator shot a current or former intimate partner or family member as part of the rampage, then
➡️Domestic violence and gun violence are deeply connected and we must keep guns out of the hands of abusers.

At YWCA Glendale and Pasadena, we seek to empower young women and girls through programs that give them the skills necessary to become the thinkers, leaders, and innovators of tomorrow.
Yzzy, one of our TechGYRLS and Camp Rosie participants, had the opportunity to interview Dr. Hugh Sealy on what kids can do about climate change. We are so proud of her! Check it out ⬆️🧡

"I #CelebrateImmigrants and honor our diversity because we build community with one another in #LosAngeles. In the face of discrimination and financial challenges on the path toward a better life, my family found support through those who housed us in their garages and past community programs offered by @esperanzachc and food programs by @stjohnvianneychurch." -Jomie Liu, Girls' Empowerment Program Manager

"These are some pictures that show part of my heritage. I’m teaching my daughter to be proud of who we are and the ancestors that we have before us. Being a Latina mom and first Mexican immigrant to the USA from my family, teaching my values and my culture is very important to me, because I want to continue carrying it for our future generations to follow, like my daughter’s kids and their kids." - Magda Sellon, Housing Specialist.

50 years of #TitleIX, the landmark legislation that prohibits sex discrimination in educational institutions that receive federal funding. As you can see, the law has made a HUGE difference (though we still have a long way to go) for female athletes at the high school and collegiate level. But did you know that Title IX is so much more than sports? It also requires schools receiving federal funding to combat #GenderBasedViolence and harassment and it prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender and gender identity.
For more information, check out @womenssportsfoundation's "50 Years of Title IX"(🔗 in bio).
