April 26, 2023 Glendale, California

On May 17, 2023 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, YWCA Glendale and Pasadena will celebrate the power of philanthropy at its 26th Annual Heart & Excellence Awards Persimmon Donor Circle Luncheon.

Three local women will be presented with a 2023 Heart & Excellence Award at the luncheon.

Rima Cameron is an attorney, former YWCA Glendale board member 1992-1998, and current Persimmon Donor Leadership Circle member. Born in Tehran, Iran to Armenian parents, Rima moved with her family to Boston when she was 6 years old. Over the past 34 years since moving to Glendale, Rima has volunteered and served on the boards of various community organizations.

Rima’s volunteer work as an attorney helping DV survivors get restraining orders made her realize how pervasive a problem DV is in our society.

Jessica First is CEO and President of Kilter, a branding agency that focuses on advancing organizations that focus on social good. She is the outgoing board president of the YWCA Glendale and Pasadena and a current Persimmon Donor Circle member. During Jessica’s board presidency, the organization doubled in size, united Glendale and Pasadena services, and delivered uninterrupted critical services throughout the COVID pandemic.

Jessica is proud to to be part of an organization that continues to elevate women of all walks of life and eliminate racism through racial justice work.

Denise Houlemard Jones is the Principal of DMJ Consulting, former YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley Board Member 1998-2004, and a current Persimmon Donor Circle member. She is dedicated to public service and has shared her invaluable leadership skills with numerous organizations. Notably, she chaired the first Women for Racial Justice Breakfast in October 2002.

YWCA’s mission is important to Denise because there continues to exist the perpetuation of unequal and unfair treatment when it comes to racial and social justice.
