Glendale, California, April 16, 2019
YWCA Glendale calls all individuals to join us in taking a “Stand Against Racism” on Tuesday, April 30th. YWCA Glendale, as a part of the longstanding annual YWCA campaign that spans the country, is hosting a local “Stand Against Racism” event to unite the community in a bold demonstration that delivers a clear message: YWCA is on a mission to eliminate racism.
“It is our responsibility to build community among those who work for racial justice and to raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities,” says YWCA Glendale Executive Director, Tara Peterson.
From Thursday through Sunday, events are anticipated in nearly every state across the country including engagement in public policy and advocacy, community education, and public proclamations. YWCA Glendale’s April 30th event aims to:
Promote open and honest dialogue in a safe place, while exploring ways to address systemic racism.
Build strategies for promoting inclusion and respect for diversity.
Encourage healing practices for racial and ethnic trauma.
Participants in YWCA’s “Stand Against Racism” range from schoolchildren to elected officials, from owners of small businesses to church leaders, and many others.
