Categories: Press

Glendale, CA – The YWCA of Glendale is pleased to announce it has received a $10,000 grant from Soroptimist International of Glendale. These funds will support the remodeling of the YWCA’s Sunrise Village Emergency Shelter.

Sunrise Village is a 45-day emergency shelter providing housing, meals, counseling, social services, legal services, parenting classes, and case management to victims of domestic violence and their children. Sunrise Village is part of the YWCA of Glendale’s Domestic Violence Program. Started in 1979, the focus of the program is to empower victims of domestic violence by providing assistance to achieve independence, self-sufficiency and a life free from violence.

“The YWCA of Glendale is grateful to Soroptimist International of Glendale for their continued support of our domestic violence programs,” said Michelle Roberts, executive director at the YWCA of Glendale. “Sunrise Village is the only domestic violence shelter in Glendale. Ensuring that the shelter is in excellent and safe condition is critical to support the needs of victims of domestic violence and their children who are homeless as a result of abuse.”

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of the YWCA of Glendale, I thank the Soroptimist International of Glendale,” said Jerome French, board president. “This grant will allow us to make much needed improvements to our emergency shelter.”
